Sustainable interior design Mallorca

Sustainable interior design on Mallorca: local materials, craftsmanship, and working with nature
What we plan for (before we sketch)
Before we choose a fabric, we look at orientation, shading, and airflow. Shutters, pergolas, and overhangs tame heat so you don’t have to counter it later with oversized cooling. We integrate cooling ceilings and walls or smart, concealed cooling systems—for example from Kiefer, Argillatherm, or Baswa. In the wall construction we use highly insulating aerated concrete blocks; the water-based cooling system is mounted directly onto them. Rooms are typically finished with clay plaster (e.g., from Claytec), which is vapor-permeable, moisture-regulating, and healthy for the indoor climate.

Sustainable materials: our selection
We especially rely on clay plaster. Clay plaster is a natural, breathable finish that regulates humidity, buffers heat, and creates a healthy indoor climate with a warm, tactile surface. Lime or mineral plaster likewise lets walls breathe and helps balance indoor humidity.
We mostly use local natural stones from the island such as travertine or “Marvel”; otherwise we use microcement. Local stone keeps floors pleasantly cool and is easy to maintain over time. We prefer oiled timber so surfaces can be refreshed rather than replaced. Near the sea, hardware and details must withstand salty air—marine-grade, seawater-resistant metals and details designed for easy cleaning save trouble later. For us, sustainability means: repairable, serviceable, and long-lived.
Local craft, short supply chains
Sustainability is also logistics and longevity. We source high-performance core materials from Germany (reliability, certifications) while collaborating locally where it adds the most value. Mallorcan stonemasons build traditional facades from island stone; local carpenters join later for custom interiors. When it matters, we build samples—small mock-ups to test comfort, scale, and finish before going into production.
